Coach Mike graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Marketing in 1990. He is entering his second season as the Head Swim Coach at Corona del Sol High School after serving as an assistant coach for 14 years. His coaching career began while attending ASU, where he worked as a lifeguard for the City of Tempe and coached swimmers ages 13 and older for two summers.

In addition to coaching, Coach Mike is the owner of Michael S. Herrmann Insurance Agency Inc. in Tempe, where he has been helping individuals, families, and businesses protect what matters most for over 35 years. He started his agency just one month after graduating from ASU and continues to enjoy building relationships with clients throughout Arizona.

Coach Mike has been married to his wife, Kelly, for over 35 years. After a long and rewarding career as an elementary school teacher in the Kyrene School District, Kelly now travels throughout remote areas of Arizona and New Mexico, helping teachers refine their instructional practices and strengthen classroom learning. They have two daughters, both proud Corona del Sol graduates. Kelsey graduated from Corona in 2010 and the University of Arizona in 2014. Lindsey graduated from Corona in 2014 and Arizona State University in 2018. Today, Mike and Kelly also enjoy spending as much time as possible with their three granddaughters.

Outside of swimming, Coach Mike enjoys camping, fishing, and spending time at the family's small hobby ranch. Their ranch is home to a rescued wild horse, a miniature donkey, and a Chihuahua who all somehow manage to coexist. He is also an avid open-water swimmer and member of the Mesa Aquatics Masters Swim Team, swimming five to six days each week. Over the years, he has completed numerous marathon open-water swims of more than 10 miles.

Whether he's on the pool deck, helping clients with their insurance needs, or enjoying the outdoors with his family, Coach Mike is passionate about mentoring young people, building strong relationships, and creating a positive, fun, and competitive environment for every athlete on the Corona del Sol Swim & Dive Team.
